That opened the door for Davidson (2-8, 2-5), which scored on a 2-yard pass from Jonathan Carkuff to Lanny Funsten. Robert Schick booted the PAT for the win. Davidson trailed 21-14 entering the fourth quarter, and Carkuff scored on his second 1-yard run of the day with 13:50 left. He completed 37 of 56 passes for 395 yards and a TD. Reese Williams had 10 receptions for 131 yards for Davidson, and Alex Grask had 15 tackles and a fumble recovery.

UTEP’s Mike Price retiring after 31-year career notable for Rose Bowls, scandal at Alabama

EL PASO, Texas –  UTEP coach Mike Price is retiring after a 31-year career notable for two Rose Bowl bids at Washington State and a drinking binge that cost him the Alabama job before he ever coached a game for the Crimson Tide. Price announced the decision Monday with one game left in his ninth season with the Miners (3-8). He led UTEP to 8-4 records and bowl games his first two years in El Paso but hasn’t had a winning record since. After leading Washington State to the Rose Bowl in 2002, Price was hired by Alabama. That spring, he was fired after admitting to drinking heavily and going to a topless bar after attending a golf tournament in Florida. Price, who started at Weber State in 1981, has a 177-182 career record.

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James

• It doesn’t require any stretching whatsoever to term this the “best win” of Indiana’s season.  For one, there simply hasn’t been much quality competition: the Pacers entered Tuesday ranked No. 30 out of 30 when it comes to opponent’s average winning percentage. For two, only three teams in the league have a better winning percentage than the Heat — the Clippers, Thunder and Spurs — and the Pacers are a combined 0-3 against the trio (two losses to San Antonio and one to Oklahoma City with a 13. 3 average margin of defeat). Not playing anyone, relatively speaking, is one issue, but how Indiana has fared to date against quality competition is another.  Run down a list of Indiana’s 20 wins prior to beating the Heat and it’s cupcake city: just four of Indiana’s 20 wins entering Tuesday came against teams currently in the playoff picture.

Key:

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual’s overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual’s average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual’s consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.

Foxboro, MA– Running back Danny Woodhead and defensive end Chandler Jones are both anticipated to play for the New England Patriots when the defending AFC champs deal with the Baltimore Ravens Sunday for the right to represent the conference in Super Bowl XLVII. Both players left last Sunday’s 41-28 triumph over Houston in the AFC Divisional Round with injuries, but were full individuals in Friday’s practice and have actually each been detailed as likely on the Patriots’ final injury report. Woodhead exited on New England’s preliminary series after hurting his left thumb, while Jones was held out for the entire second half because of an ankle sprain. The Patriots placed five players in all on Friday’s report, all of whom are likely. Defensive end Trevor Scott (knee), cornerback Marquice Cole (finger) and offensive lineman Nick McDonald (shoulder) were also included.

Top-25 foes collide in Big 12 showdown

Stillwater, OK –  Two of the top teams in the Big 12 Conference collide on Wednesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena, as the 14th- ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys play host to the ninth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks (9-3) and Cowboys (9-3) are both a half game behind Kansas State in the conference standings by virtue of the Wildcats’ 71-61 win over West Virginia on Monday. Kansas holds a huge advantage in the all-time series with Oklahoma State, 106-54, but it is the Cowboys seeking the regular-season sweep after knocking off the Jayhawks in Lawrence, 85-80, and ending Kansas’ 33-game homecourt winning streak. Bill Self’s Jayhawks lost two straight after that setback, but have righted the ship most recently, blowing out both Kansas State (83-62) and Texas (73-47) in succession. Travis Ford’s Cowboys come into this contest with plenty of momentum, having won each of the last seven games.

Reid: Vick suffered ‘pretty significant’ concussion

Reid says he could not immediately rule out Vick for Sunday’s game at Washington. Reid, though, made it sound likely that rookie Nick Foles will get the start. Foles will take the first-team snaps when the Eagles return to practice on Wednesday. Foles was 22 of 32 for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception after taking over for Vick in the second quarter of Philadelphia’s loss to Dallas on Sunday. Reid says Vick complained of a headache and fatigue on Monday. Reid says Vick is still the starting QB but left the door open for Foles to win the job. Copyright 2012 Associated Press. Sentiment Stats:
  • Number of Quotes: 1
  • Aggregate Sentiment: 0
  • Mean: 0
  • Standard Deviation: 1.4142135623731

Excerpt:

Richmond, VA– The 19th-ranked Virginia Commonwealth Rams enter search of their 14th successive success, as they test local rival Richmond at the Robins Center on Thursday night. VCU is an outstanding 16-3 on the season, and the team is 4-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Rams have not suffered a defeat since falling to Missouri in a 68-65 last back on Nov. 24 in the Battle 4 Atlantis occasion in the Bahamas. Shaka Smart’s club is a perfect 5-0 in true roadway games, and it is coming off a 90-63 rout of Duquesne in Pittsburgh last Saturday. Richmond opened the season at 9-2, but an 87-59 shellacking at the hands of nationwide power Kansas on Dec. 18 embarked on the team on a downward spiral that has seen it drop five of its last 8.
